We are two small Church of England primary schools in the beautiful county of Durham: Evenwood C of E Primary School and St. Michael’s C of E Primary School. We are situated only 16 miles apart and serve our immediate communities of Evenwood and Bishop Middleham as well as the wider community who choose to bring their children to us.
The schools had a shared Headteacher for over a year before deciding to create a learning federation. This means a formal partnership and a much more collaborative way of working. There is one governing body that oversees the strategic direction of each school within the Federation. Our staff work very closely together, particularly at management level, and this allows for best practice to be shared and benefit all our children. As part of a federation, we strive to broaden the opportunities for all children through a creative and innovative curriculum that encourages a collaborative partnership and shared ethos. These close links allow resources and expertise to be shared as well as staff training, federation events and access for all children to sports, performances, field trips, etc.
